Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine whether Newbery Award books of 1950-59 and those of 1970-79 reflect the characteristics, attitudes, and problems of families of these periods.
Through a detailed analysis of each book, a compilation of data, and a comparison to actual, contemporary conditions, the researcher found that the books analyzed did reflect the society of those periods. The structure of society, and the characteristics, attitudes, and problems of the characters were accurately portrayed in the books of each period.
