Description
My art is an effort to combine visually simple yet eye catching forms with more complex underlying themes. Simply put, this work is a fancified card catalogue drawer which has taken on the characteristics of a river. Its resemblance to a river is only on the simplest level, but the work is also meant to reference the flow of knowledge through literature as well as the imaginative qualities that reading develops. I like to view it from a child’s perspective, in which you’ve pulled out the drawer, with the river heading on the front, and you find your imagination taking over. Before you know it, the drawer has actually become a river in your mind. My intention was to show that fantasy in the real world and to tie the imaginative qualities back into the theme of reading and the role it plays in developing the imagination of children.
